The House by a vote of 237 to 189 today approved H.R. 2874 – The 21st Century Flood Reform Bill. The Senate has not yet taken action on reauthorizing the NFIP, which is set to expire on December unless a reauthorization package is enacted. The White House issued a Statement of Administration Policy yesterday supporting the substitute amendment to H.R. 2874 which was voted on in the House today.

NAFSMA Members - The issue of the Congressional Budget Office scoring of H.R. 2874 seems to have been resolved and the House Rules Committee is set to consider the 21st Century Flood Reform Act tonight at 5 p.m.
If the Rules Committee clears the bill, it can be put on the schedule for consideration by the full House of Representatives. It's important to note that Tax Reform is also expected on the House floor this week.
NAFSMA Submits Comments on Corps EC to Implement Floodplain Management EO 13690
NAFSMA submitted comments on April 29 to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) on the draft engineering circular (EC) released for review in December 2016. Comments had originally been due on January 30th, however, the comment period was extended to May 1, 2017.
NAFSMA Levee Subcommittee Developing New NAFSMA White Paper on Levee Issues
The NAFSMA Levee Subcommittee will hold a luncheon meeting during the Annual Flood and Stormwater Management Conference on Tuesday, June 27 at the Belmond Charleston Place. In preparation for the meeting, NAFSMA is drafting a brief white paper on levee issues. Taking the lead on this paper will be NAFSMA Vice President Janet Bly, Flood Management Committee Co-Chair Sunny Simpkins and NAFSMA Technical Advisor Dusty Williams.
USACE Extends Comment Deadline on Draft Engineering Circular to Implement FFRMS and Floodplain Management Executive Orders to May 1, 2017 from January 30.
